THE GARDEN AGAINST TIME success, and THE GARDEN MANIFESTO publication

Olivia Laing’s The Garden Against Time has been longlisted for Blackwell’s Book of the Year 2024. The category winners will be announced on 31st October, and the overall winner will be named on 20th November. See the rest of the longlist here.

In Blackwell’s Instagram post, they wrote:

These nine books across three categories (Fiction, Non-Fiction and Children’s) have enthralled us, educated us, captured our imaginations, made us think, and brought us joy. It’s a pleasure to commend these to you as being some of the greatest reads of the year, as chosen by our booksellers.

In other very exciting news, A Garden Manifesto, a labour of love edited by Olivia and Richard Porter, is now available to order directly from Pilot Press (or it’s arriving very soon in indie bookshops everywhere).

What do gardens mean and how can they change the world? A Garden Manifesto gathers radical visions rooted in the earth from artists, writers, gardeners and activists, among them Lubaina Himid, Derek Jarman, Jamaica Kincaid, Ana Mendieta, Dan Pearson and Eileen Myles. It’s a seed box for an uncertain future, packed with anarchic dreams of Eden-making and humming with resistance to the colonial project of homogenisation and destruction.
